Clive Hay
Born in South Africa "the day the music died" according to Don McLean, Clive started playing guitar at age 10, followed by piano at age 13. He started his professional music life in November 1979 at the Airport Holiday Inn Johannesburg.
Apart from his involvement as founder member with popular South African bands and artists such as SAVANNAH (1980-82), and STEP ASIDE with Vicky Sampson and Verny Scholtz (1988-89) and a year’s stint in the USA with band LOOKER in 1983-84, his solo career has included five seven singles and four albums, a South African Sarie Award nomination, numerous radio and television appearances incl.
Good Morning South Africa and innumerable live appearances at venues ranging from clubs to corporate functions. Highlights have been performing overseas in places as diverse as the USA, Finland and Dubai.
After moving to Sydney in 2000, Clive joined the Sphere family as a solo artist as well as with his popular duo “SOUL TATTOO”. Clive and the duo are regular features on the Sydney musical landscape, doing Bowling Clubs, RSL’s, hotels, stadiums, private and corporate functions and the like.
He has stayed true to his musical roots of the 70’s and 80’s, but has a repertoire truly reflective of what is popular with all ages today. Clive has an Anthology album currently available for purchase on his website. He is married to singer/songwriter Renata Whaits and has 3 boys, and is playing at a venue near you this weekend.
