My Idol,

Whitney Houston

Australia first met platinum selling recording artist Emily Williams in Australian Idol (’05) where she won the hearts of the nation performing stunning renditions of classic tracks but none more stunning than her renditions of Whitney Houston’s standards! Soon after Idol, Emily joined the all girl group ‘Young Divas’ and quickly became a double platinum selling artist who enjoyed massive success with such songs as “This Time I know It’s For Real,” “Happening All Over Again,” “Searchin’” and “Turn Me Loose.”

In late 2010 Emily launched her eagerly awaited solo career with the track ‘Spellbound’ which saw her flying solo for the first time since Idol. Emily’s second solo release ‘You’re Mine’ hinted of a new musical direction; this soulful single received rave reviews and debuted at #22 on the independent charts solidifying her title as “Queen of the high C’s.” Soon after the success of ‘You’re Mine’, Emily heard news of the devastation in her native country New Zealand. Emily quickly stepped into the studio to record a heartfelt ballad “Never Alone”. This power ballad was set to bring hope to the thousands devastated by the natural disaster and of course get much needed funds into Christchurch through the NZ appeal with all proceeds from the release being donated to the cause.

It’s now been 7 years since the country first fell in love with Emily in Australian Idol, and after working with some amazing international talent from Australia and the US Emily crafted the eagerly awaited album ‘Uncovered’. “Uncovered” was released 10th February 2012 to huge critical acclaim as she set off on a 20 date national promotional tour across Australia. With a nomination for “best female artist” and smash singles under her belt Emily felt the need to stand tall and express her love of one of her favorite artists Whitney Houston through the songs that changed her life…..this story is all about her idol…..
the show

Emily’s first solo single (on the Young Divas album) was a cover of Whitney Houston’s classic hit ‘I will always love you’. It was fitting that Emily’s first single be a tribute to her idol whom she idolized her entire life. As Whitney passed away Emily was honored to be flooded with requests from fans, event organizers and even Whitney Houston fan groups across the world wanting to hear Emily perform a tribute.

Emily has now put together a full production show honoring her idol. The production showcases Emily’s favorite Whitney songs including the classic hits, the songs that made her famous and the ones that inspired Emily herself to follow her dreams!
The show features 2 x 50min sets featuring Emily in all her glory accompanied by a four piece band. A smaller scale show can also be performed upon request.
